I always thought that makeup brushes were all made of the same kind of hair, but later I found out that makeup brushes come in more than just one kind of hair, but in many different kinds. So which kind of hair is better for makeup brushes? What are the types of hair for makeup brushes?

1. Natural animal hair (rabbit hair, squirrel hair, horse hair...) feels softer and skin-friendly, has strong powder-grabbing ability, but absorbs water, so it is usually used to apply powder products.

2. Artificial synthetic fibers: When applying liquid or cream cosmetics, synthetic fiber brushes are usually used. They are harder, more elastic, and do not absorb water. They are easier to clean than animal hair, so foundation brushes are mostly made of artificial hair.

3. Mixed bristles: Of course, some brushes are made with a mixture of animal and artificial bristles. Blended bristles have the powder-collecting power of natural animal hair and the polishing effect of synthetic fiber hair, making them suitable for local touch-ups.

Generally, makeup brushes have two types of hair: natural hair and artificial hair.

Natural hair has complete hair scales, so it is relatively soft and has strong powder holding power, which can make makeup more docile and will not irritate the skin. Common natural hairs include mink or wolf hair (top quality), gray squirrel hair (high quality), horse hair or goat hair.

Artificial hair has a harder texture and is suitable for thick cream-based makeup, but it is relatively cheaper and is more commonly used for foundation brushes. Nylon has the hardest texture and is mostly used as mascara brushes, eyebrow brushes, etc.

In fact, deformed makeup brushes are not useless. There are many ways to restore them to their original shape. If the bristles of a makeup brush are slightly deformed, you can wash them again with warm water detergent. It should be noted that you should not rub the bristles too hard when washing, as this will make the bristles deform more severely.

After making sure that the makeup in the makeup brush has been thoroughly cleaned, wrap the bristles with a clean tissue or towel to allow the remaining moisture to be absorbed by the tissue. Then, shape the bristles while they are still semi-dry. Then, put the fixing net for shaping on the brush head and place it in a ventilated place to dry naturally.

If the bristles of the makeup brush are severely deformed and the above methods cannot solve the problem, you need to replace the new makeup brush as your makeup tool. To avoid deformation and damage to makeup brushes, you should choose a relatively cool and dry place when storing them. Places that are too humid or too hot are not suitable for storing makeup brushes.

If the makeup brush becomes hard, you can soak it in warm water to make it soft again. If that doesn't work, you can add moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to care for the bristles during the cleaning process. This principle is similar to hair care and the effect is relatively good. You can also add a little softener to warm water and let the bristles soak in warm water for a few minutes.
